Flash Fiction / Book Title Generator Competition

I’ve been doing a lot of wittering on about competitions and prizes lately. So I thought it was time this blog had one of its own.

Remember the Book Title Generators?

Well, how about a flash fiction competition where you write a 500 word story, inspired by your very own personalised book title?

Choose your genre! If you’re using the Chick-Lit Book Title Generator, write 500 words of the purest chick-lit (or tearjerker) you can imagine. The Crime Thriller Title Generator might result in 500 words of sheer murder and mayhem. Or you could write 500 words of literary naval-gazing inspired by what comes out of the Literary Fiction Generator for you.

Or hey – why not do all 3?!

The rules are simple, but please read them carefully:

1.  Unbelievable shovel-loads of points will be given for joyful silliness.

2.  If you make the judges laugh, your score will immediately be multiplied by 2.

3.  Plot is important. The sillier the better (refer to Rule 1).

4.  Nice writing will be appreciated. But you are categorically forbidden from worrying about it.

The prize? Well, of course there has to be a prize. There’s a €50 Amazon voucher for the best entry (euro vouchers apply to all entries except if the winner is from the US, in which case the voucher will be $50). The winner will also be published to great fanfare on this blog, with honourable mentions for 2nd and 3rd.

Have some fun with it! This is a great opportunity for you to mess about and experiment with style, if a certain genre isn’t your usual cup of tea. And even if you’ve never written before, when will you get your next opportunity to write a story based on your unique and personal book title?

Closing date is April 25th (Friday after Easter).

E-mail your entry/entries (as text within the e-mail) to:       tarasparlingwrites  AT  gmail  DOT  com       , with the subject line “Flash Fiction Competition”, and the judges’ decision will be final*

*by this I mean, if there are enough entries to warrant me seeking judging help, I will be buying the wine for the judges and calmly accepting the decision of the majority

Is the 500 word a guideline or do we need to hit it exactly Tara? 😛

Ah no, I certainly won’t be penalising anyone for 520 words, or even as low as 200 instead of 500. Although if anyone is heading for a verbose 600 or 1,000, I’ll be sending the boys round and making a paper plane out of their story!!
